Ferries leave from the two most southern Spanish ports - the international port of Algeciras, in the bay of Gibraltar, and the small port of Tarifa. The city of Algeciras is located at the Bay of Gibraltar in the very south of Spain. The best way to get there is by public transport or by car from Málaga, which is an approximate 1,5 hour drive. The port is close to the bus station and the town centre. You can buy your ticket for the ferry company of your choice in the entrance hall. Ferries to Tanger leave approximately every hour. If you are not travelling by car, reservations are hardly ever necessary. Depending on the ferry company of your choice (or the one that leaves soonest), crossing the straight can take from 1,5 hour up to 2,5 hours. There is no need to think you will be bored, as you happen to be in one of Europe’s most beautiful regions. Every ferry comes with a cafeteria that offers snacks and drinks. All ferries are big, safe and modern. Over the past two years very much has been done to improve the service as well as the safety. To/From Tarifa Tarifa is the southern most town of mainland Spain as well as of mainland Europe, and slightly harder to reach by public transport. From Málaga, just drive past Algeciras and keep following the signs towards Tarifa, which is just 20 km down the (beautiful) road. From here you are closer to Morocco, and it will only take 45 minutes to cross the straight. You can park your car anywhere in town. Your best bet are the parking lots near the beach (drive straight through Tarifa until you see the beach) or the paid parking lot at the Ferry Port itself. The port is only a few minutes walking from the town centre. Do not forget to visit this beautiful town and European capital of windsurf ! Ferries can be booked in the website of FRS : www.frs.es

More Information The Ferry Port of Tangier is in the city centre. It is a large port, and it can take you 10 minutes to get out of it, but once you go through the exit gate, you are in the heart of Tangier. In the port long lines of taxis are waiting for you. The small, blue ‘Petit Taxi’ can take you anywhere in the city centre. The larger ‘Grand Taxi’ can bring you anywhere, to the Train Station (10 minutes), Hercules Caves (30 minutes) or Asilah (30 minutes) or even Meknes (3 hours) and anywhere else. Tip Bring a pen with you. This is handy, as you will be asked to fill out an entry form when you are boarding. Enjoy your travel. You are in a fascinating area with a long history. |
