Unseen authenticity

It was in the Alhambra in Spain that the son said to the father: “Father, we have to do something with our house”.

The result was that Dar El Ghalia, a traditional family house, was slowly converted into a guesthouse, making sure that none of its tradition got lost on the way.

The tiles in the patio and anywhere else are still those being walked on by El Ghalia, the woman that was the great favourite of Hadj Omar Lebbar, the founder of this palace, back in the late 19th century.

El Ghalia was an authoritarian woman both loved and feared for her strong personality, and was in charge of the education of the household and the 3 children, and her stamp on the house still lives on today, with the very same family, having grown up in this magnificent Dar, still managing and safeguarding its authenticity as a guesthouse and hideaway.

Our opinion in one word… formidable.

Location

Dar El Ghalia is situated in a small alley in the heart of the huge Medina of Fes, near the Andalucian Neighbourhood, and within walking distance of the souks. The guarded parking is at a 5 minute walk from the house.

All the 12 rooms are located on the ground floor and 1st floor around the central patio, and are named after the woman that marked the palace by their presence in the past.

They are decorated in a lush, oriental style, and will transport you into an authentic fairy tale of 1001 Night.

Our Opinion

We greatly admire Dar El Ghalia. Having been in the hands of the same family for over 100 years, a fact so intrinsically at the base of the true nature of a Riad, and a family so aware of tradition, El Ghalia took steps that might not be liked by the average travel agent (not installing a swimming pool, not creating a fountain in the patio) but which according to us is right that what has preserved and will preserve the ‘soul’ of the house.

The one and only compromise that was made, was the building of an elevator for the comfort of their older guests. Anyone having seen this elevator will agree with us that a remarkable job has been done.

Included:
Rates include accommodation, breakfast and all taxes, on basis of 2 people sharing.

Excluded:
Additional guests (3td and 4th) come with a supplement of 50€ per person per night.

Reservation Deposit
To reserve a 20% deposit is due at time of reservation. The payment of the deposit is per Pay Pal – you will be guided through the payment process.   

Balance
The 80% balance is due at time of stay.

Financial Details
After confirmation of your reservation, you will receive a form for credit card authorisation.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations 31 days prior to arrival: The deposit is not credited.
Cancellations within 31 days prior to arrival: Cancellation courtesy of Dar El Ghalia.
Cancellations within 7 days prior to arrival: The full amount will be charged to your credit card.

Liability
MarocDreamer and Riad Dar el Ghalia can not be held responsible for any issue regarding cancellations because of issues experienced at Customs. It is our client’s responsibility to be in possession of the right documents to enter the Kingdom of Morocco.
