RIAD AL MAMOUNE
www.riadsouk.com
Now here is a gay friendly riad. Rare... but they exist.
And the gay friendliness is repeatedly confirmed with a great big smile of the lady owner.
An owner, by the way, that could be named the highlight of the riad. Genuinely bubbly and hospitable, she has become a landmark for especially single travelers who sometimes felt a bit lost in Marrakech.
Riad Al Mamoune is a Riad of 16th century, situated near the Souk of Spices in Marrakech, managed by a lovely Franco-Moroccan family rooted in the region.
This lovingly decorated house is a haven of peace, with a small patio that includes a bassin to cool off in the hot summer and a very nice, garden-like roof terrace to sun bathe, have your breakfast or a drink at the small bar – a spot with an almost Caribbean feel.
The original structure has been maintained while giving the house also the indispensable modern comfort, such as Air-Conditioning, a Jacuzzi and WIFI.
Al Mamoune is a name that lovingly refers to the grandmother of the family.
Location
Riad Al Mamoune has an ideal location. In a tiny alley and seemingly lost in the middle of nowhere, as a Riad should be, but just around the corner of the very nice Spice Square and the Spice street and the start of the busy souks. Through the souks, it is a 5 to 10 minute walk to Jmnaa El Fnaa Square.

Each and every room is completely different, from the antique and art deco style of Suite Elf Lila Wa Lila to the African double room TanTan.
For first timers to a Riad it might be strange that the door of your room can open onto the small public patio, but as in a family house this is simply your living room as well.
