CHANGING HABITS ON THE TRAIN

Did we tell you before that taking a train in Morocco was such a cosy affair, because everybody talked with each other and shared cake and tea?

Well, that was in 2004. Nowadays there is a trend towards individualism - people that can afford to take trains are also the people that can afford iPods, laptops, cellular phones and glossy magazines.

The scenery behind the window remains as idyllic as ever though.

THE 2 TRAIN LINES

For you as a tourist there are two main train lines:

Tangier-Marrakech
Stops at all bigger towns and cities such as Asilah, Kentra, Rabat, Casablanca.

Tangier-Fes

Stops at all bigger towns and cities such as Asilah and Meknes.

Depending on the train you are in, you either go directly, or you will be asked to switch trains in Sidi Kacem.

Distances in Morocco when travelling by train:

Tangier-Meknes (267 km)
Tangier-Fes (303)
Tangier-Rabat (278 km)
Tangier-Casablanca (369 km)
Tangier-Marrakech (598 km)
