ABOUT OUARZAZATE

Ouarzazate is often called The Door Of The Desert.

The name Ouarzazate comes from a Berber phrase meaning "without noise" or "without confusion".

Historically, Ouarzazate was a small crossing point for African traders seeking to reach northern cities in Morocco and Europe.

Nowadays, with its closeness to both the Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley, it is often the favourite destination for travellers that do not want to stick to the main cities.

Also it now hosts Atlas Studios, one of the largest movie studios in the world. Indeed, it is here that famous movies such as Babel, Lawrence of Arabia or Gladiator have been shot.

EXCURSIONS

The hotel will gladly help you with all information on the region or make arrangements for your excursions.

Main excursions in the region can include the Kasbah town of Aït Benhaddou and Zagora, an oasis town surrounded by palm trees and the traditional departure point for camel trains to Timbuktu. From Ouarzazate itself you can start excursions by camel or 4X4 through the valley of the Draa River.

HOW TO GET TO OUARZAZATE?

The distance Marrakech-Ouarzazate is of approximately 200 km, but due to the mountaneous region a trip by car or taxi can take 3,5 hours, and with the bus you can better reserve your full day for the travel. The cheapest option is obviously the bus, but when you would be able to share your taxi with other travellers, you might be able to negotiate a very good price with your taxi driver.
